According to the poll, Tokayev got 82.45% of the votes.
In addition to 69-year-old Tokaev, five other candidates stood for election, but none of them was considered a real competitor to the current president.
Tokaev became president in 2019 when the longtime head of state stepped down Nursultans Nazarbayevswho, after leaving office, still retained decisive influence.
After the riots in January this year, in which more than 230 people lost their lives, Tokayev removed Nazarbayev and his clan from power.
In March, the constitution was amended to reduce the powers of the president and increase the powers of parliament. At the same time, the president’s term has been extended from five to seven years and the president cannot run for a second consecutive term. This restriction did not prevent Tokaev from running in the current elections, as he was elected president in accordance with the previous constitution.
Tokayev has promised to carry out political and economic reforms, but in conditions where real opposition is not allowed, these could only be of an aesthetic nature.
Previously, Tokayev, a graduate of the Moscow Institute of International Relations, was the chairman of the Senate of the upper house of parliament, prime minister and minister of foreign affairs.
