Poll: Omtzigt in elections second party of the Netherlands

It is of course a hypothetical question, because Omtzigt recently announced that he is not yet involved in the formation of a new party and there are no elections yet. For the time being, the former CDA member will continue independently as Groep Omtzigt.

Yet it shows how popular the MP is. Bee a poll by Maurice de Hond he gains 25 seats, while the CDA loses 9 and only ends up with 6 seats.

Only Mark Rutte’s VVD is more popular than Omtzigt. That party would win 3 seats compared to the current number and reach 37 seats. The voters therefore do not seem to blame the VVD for the rumblings around the cabinet formation, because Rutte’s party remains by far the largest.

Formation in the doldrums

Six months after the elections, there is still no prospect of a new cabinet, which means that serious work is now being done on a minority coalition. Kaag has announced that he does not want to continue with the ChristenUnie and VVD and CDA have indicated last week that they do not see anything in a cabinet with PvdA and Groenlinks. Kaag took it on hard out to its intended coalition partner.

The voters of D66 seem to speak less about the course of the cabinet formation, because that party would lose 5 seats in elections and end up with 19 seats.

New elections

More than half of the respondents to the De Hond poll are now in favor of new elections. 54 percent say they like it, compared to 44 percent last week. In new elections there still seem to be a lot of floating voters. “Only 63 percent currently mention the same party of preference as the one they voted almost six months ago,” the website of De Hond states.
