Poll: Majority of EU citizens support EU aid to Ukraine

Most European Union (EU) citizens support EU aid for Ukraineaccording to the “Eurobarometer” survey published on Wednesday, the press secretary of the European Parliament (EP) in Latvia, Jānis Krastiņš, informed the LETA news agency.

In a poll conducted from 12 October to 7 November, 74% of EU citizens supported the EU providing aid to Ukraine after the Russian invasion. In all EU Member States, the majority of citizens express support for EU aid: the highest support is in Sweden (97%), Finland (95%), the Netherlands (93%), Portugal (92 %) and Denmark (92% ). In Latvia, 80% of the population supports the assistance provided by the EU. In the ten months since the start of the war in Ukraine, support for specific measures taken by the EU, such as sanctions against the Russian government or financial, military or humanitarian aid to Ukraine, has remained high at 73%.

The impact of Russia’s war in Ukraine is undoubtedly felt by European citizens as well. Because of the war and its aftermath, almost two-thirds of EU citizens think their life will change (65%). Compared to April/May of this year, this indicator has increased by four percentage points.

The European Parliament’s “Eurobarometer” survey for autumn 2022 was conducted by the company “Kantar” from 12 October to 7 November in all 27 EU member states and a total of 26,443 interviews were conducted. The EU’s performance is assessed taking into account the population of each Member State.
