A recent poll conducted by Red C for the Irish Independent found that a majority of Irish people believe that private jets should be taxed. Of those surveyed, 73% were in favour of implementing a tax on private jets, compared to only 13% who opposed the idea. This comes in the wake of controversy regarding the use of private jets by Irish politicians during the COVID-19 pandemic.
The poll also found that 63% of respondents believe that higher taxes should be imposed on those with incomes over €100,000, while 28% disagreed with the idea. In addition, 58% of those surveyed supported the government’s decision to increase carbon taxes, while 29% were against it.
The findings suggest that there is widespread support among the Irish public for the government to take a more progressive approach to taxation, particularly in relation to issues such as climate change and income inequality.
While the poll does not necessarily reflect the views of the wider public, it does suggest that there is a growing awareness among Irish people about the need to address issues such as climate change and income inequality, and that they are willing to support government policies to that end.
The results of the poll may put pressure on the Irish government to introduce new policies that reflect the concerns of the public, particularly in relation to issues such as climate change and income inequality. It remains to be seen, however, whether the government will take action in response to the poll.
