Shopping scanners are available to customers, or they can register their purchase via mobile applications. Interest in self-service shopping has been growing for a long time, and the popularity of this solution increased even more during the coronavirus pandemic. This follows from a survey among representatives of food networks.

Globus has self-service checkouts everywhere, Tesco in most stores

Globus has self-service checkouts in all its hypermarkets, and people can also make purchases through the Scan & Go system. Handheld scanners or mobile devices can be used. Globe according to its spokesman Aneta Turnovská purchasing technology is constantly innovating. While with smaller purchases, customers use mainly self-service cash registers, medium-sized ones are purchased with the help of scanning. “Interest in the use of contactless shopping in some of these forms is constantly growing. These contactless molds together account for almost half of all purchases. Self-service checkouts are used in a quarter of cases, while the My Globus application together with Scan & Go scanners represent 20 percent of the total number of purchases. “ she said.

Customers can use self-service cash registers in most Tesco stores, said company spokesman Václav Koukolíček. According to him, the Scan & Shop service is available in 45 stores, mainly in the area of ​​Prague and some other large operations in the Czech Republic, when a hand-held scanner is available. For small operations, the chain focuses on scanning via mobile phone. “Customers who want to make a quick purchase definitely prefer the Scan & Shop mobile service. Customers who come to us for weekly purchases are more likely to focus on scanning shopping. “ he continued Václav Koukolíček. According to him, the company is now analyzing how people react to these shopping solutions in order to know how to set up the service correctly in other stores.

According to the director of business communication, Albert has a chain Jiří Mareček self-service checkouts in about a third of their stores. It will add another by the end of the year. He is also currently testing the Albert Scan system. It is available in several stores, such as Jesenice, Nové Butovice, Čestlice or Litoměřice.

“60 Billa stores out of a total of 241 are now equipped with self-service cash registers. We plan to add another three stores to the existing self-service cash register stores by the end of the year. In newly issued stores, self-service cash registers will always be half non-cash and half cash, “ said a spokeswoman for Billa Dana Bratánková. According to her, the company wants to add a mobile application to the system of self-service cash registers in the future.

Customers can also take advantage of in-app and scanner shopping at more than 50 stores. “By the end of this year, we will be expanding the K-Scan service and we would like to have it in all our stores with a self-service zone,” she stated.

According to its spokesman, Penny Market Tomas Kubikand is currently testing the use of self-service cash registers in several stores. He registers more interest in them in larger cities. According to him, the company deals with variants of the development of self-service purchases, which include scanning and payment of goods via mobile applications.
