Politics, opinion and sometimes a bit flat: Nieuwe Revu will lose its own tone

Editor-in-chief Ursem also points out the differences between the magazines. “Nieuwe Revu has more long stories and focuses much more on opinion. Panorama’s strength lies in the field of crime journalism.”

Out of the bend

For Verdonschot, Nieuwe Revu was already the magazine he wanted to write for as a student. “There were long reports, large interviews and sharp columns about the topics in my life: nightlife, politics, sports and pop music.”

Many big names wrote for the magazine. From Theo van Gogh to Barend and Van Dorp, who started at Nieuwe Revu as sports reporters. “It’s a combination of thorough journalism and contributions that some people sometimes find flat,” says Verdonshot. “And of course the magazine sometimes really flew out of the corner, but that is part of it.”
