Politics in Bergheim: Meetings are reduced to a minimum

Bergheim –

The pandemic is also slowing down local politicians, at least as far as the scheduled meetings are concerned. Six meetings of technical committees were planned until the end of January, five are canceled. Only the Committee on Education, Sports and Culture will take place on Wednesday, January 20, the city council announced.

The CDU in Bergheim regrets that: “We could meet, but we have a role model function and therefore naturally limit the contacts to a minimum,” said parliamentary group leader Christian Karaschinski in an interview. Nevertheless, the Christian Democrats wanted to “start creating”. He and his parliamentary colleagues Elisabeth Hülsewig and Achim Hermes report on how politics in the CDU is shaped in times of Corona.

Elisabeth Hülsewig: “We are facing a mammoth task”

The CDU continues to digitize its parliamentary group work. Consultations and meetings are held by phone or video. Very few committee and council meetings could have taken place in the past six months. “At the moment we are doing politics in digital form,” says Hermes.

The Committee for Education, Sports and Culture meets under minimal conditions, both in terms of personnel and subject matter. “We are facing a mammoth task,” describes Elisabeth Hülsewig. In view of the updated number of pupils, it is a matter of determining which of the city schools will be expanded and how. A possible new construction of a primary school must also be discussed. The members of the school development planning working group prepared the deliberations, and resolutions would have to be passed so that their work could continue. “This is also relevant for the upcoming budget discussions,” emphasizes the politician.
