No more stacking. Interior Minister Gérald Darmanin will resign on Saturday from his mandate as mayor of Tourcoing (North), which he still held despite his government post, reports Le Figaro.
A marriage and a resignation
He must submit his resignation just after his wedding ceremony (in second marriage) at the town hall, said his entourage on Monday evening.
“My heart remains in Tourcoing: I am still elected from our city and I will become Mayor again as soon as my national mission is over,” the Minister wrote on Twitter on Monday evening.

In fact, he will continue to sit on city council.
Gérald Darmanin was reelected in the first round of municipal elections in Tourcoing on March 15, with 60.9% of the vote. He had first announced that his successor would be chosen at the end of July, then at the end of August. The latter will finally be elected during a municipal council to be held in September.
According to the case law established by Lionel Jospin in 1997, a minister cannot lead a local executive – but this rule has been circumvented several times since.
