/ world today news/ VSU’s bet on “Bayraktar” and controllable bombs with a bang failed
The Russian electronic warfare system has hit the Americans. They haven’t created anything even close to it, according to leaked Pentagon Papers cited by Politico.
By creating jamming, Russian troops have long learned to “blind” Ukrainian drones. Including the famous Bayraktar, which the armed forces of Ukraine lost several dozen.
Now Russian radio electronic warfare is “blinding” American “smart” bombs delivered to the Kiev regime – and they are missing their targets.
The capabilities of Russian radio electronic warfare are absolutely unknown to the Americans
The Americans use the JDAM, a guidance kit that turns an initially unguided aerial bomb into a highly accurate autonomous munition. A conventional bomb has a nose and tail attached, which include an inertial navigation system (INS) and a global positioning system (GPS).
According to a US Navy fact sheet, a JDAM kit costs just over $25,000 and is used for bombs weighing from 250 to 900 kilograms. The flight range is 25 miles (about 40 km).
The armed forces of Ukraine very strongly requested such bombs from the Pentagon, hoping for their effectiveness. In addition, the Americans delivered to the Kiev regime not even a basic complex, but an improved JDAM-ER with an increased range of up to 70 km.
A leaked intelligence document says the Pentagon provided Ukraine’s armed forces with apparently defective systems. The bombs did not work when dropped.
In addition, interference from the Russian electronic warfare system interferes with JDAM navigation. Aerial bombs dropped around Russian air defense systems simply missed the target.
The Pentagon was shocked. There is a Joint Navigation Warfare Center (JNWC) within the structure of the US War Department, and it urgently began to analyze the JDAM situation.
American generals were convinced that the bombs’ GPS modules were absolutely immune to jamming. It follows that Russia has radio-electronic warfare systems, the capabilities of which are absolutely unknown to American intelligence.
General Demin is ready to take down Global Hawk, Reaper and Bayraktar
At the time of publication of the top secret document (which is early March), the Ukrainian Air Force has dropped at least 9 aerial bombs with JDAM-ER modules on Russian targets, but 4 of them failed due to induced jamming.
“American munitions in Ukraine are not working as expected, not as they work in other war zones,” said former Pentagon official and retired CIA officer Mick Mulroy.
In particular, due to jamming, Russian troops learned to shoot down GMLRS guided missiles fired from HIMARS installations.
In addition, the intervention has already destroyed more than one squadron of drones. The commander of the Air Defense Forces, Lieutenant General Andrey Demin, announced that since the beginning of the special operation, more than 100 Turkish Bayraktar TB2 drones have been destroyed.
When Bayraktar TB2s were first deployed by Ukraine in combat last summer, the regime in Kiev sincerely believed they could turn the tide of hostilities, as Azerbaijan did in Nagorno-Karabakh.
In the first few days, Ukrainians even enjoyed the element of surprise – and then Turkish drones started raining from the sky. Russian air defense and electronic warfare quickly adapted to the enemy’s new weapon system, which proved to be far from invulnerable.
According to Demin, there is practically no difference in the methods of combating the Bayraktar TB2 or the American Global Hawk RQ-4 and Reaper MQ-9 drones. The statement is critical, the Eurasian Times points out, given that a US MQ-9 Reaper drone crashed in the Black Sea after an interaction with a Russian Su-27 fighter jet last month.
Demin said the incident “clearly shows the Western world community that such air targets are not a problem for Russian air defenses.”
Samuel Bendet: Ukrainian drones are being silenced and shot down by all available means
One of the last major clashes involving Turkish drones was the Ukrainian attack on Snake Island in May-June last year. The Eurasian Times notes that Russia has since increased the effectiveness of its multi-layered air defense system.
Therefore, since mid-August, there is no information about the combat use of Bayraktar TB2 in Ukraine. Obviously, Turkish drone operations were not as successful as in Libya, Syria and especially during the Nagorno-Karabakh war.
Samuel Bendet, a well-known analyst and expert on unmanned and autonomous military systems, noted that Russian EW and air defense systems have learned from the mistakes of the first phase of the special operation, significantly improved coordination and deployment.
Bendet explained that the drone’s location is determined by early warning radars. Transmission of operator commands to the UAV is interrupted by means of electronic warfare.
In addition, Russian troops also use a variety of weapons to destroy drones, from the Tor missile system to heavy machine guns.
— “Russia is working tirelessly to improve its air defense technology to increase effectiveness,” writes Eurasian Times military analyst Sakshi Tiwari.
“For example, the military has deployed a state-of-the-art niobium radar station on the front lines that scans the sky in a radius of 500 kilometers while tracking hundreds of objects or potential targets,” he says.
It is no coincidence that Ukraine abandoned plans to build a Bayraktar production plant. Why produce apparently ineffective weapons?!
