The politicians Gabriel Quadri, Manuel Clouthier and Fernando Belaunzarán, all opposed to the government of President López Obrador, boasted on their social networks that the death today of Carlos Urzúa, former Secretary of the Treasury and member of Xóchitl Gálvez’s war room would be similar to the recent one. death of the Russian dissident Alexei Navalni, where an open intervention by the Vladimir Putin regime has been denounced. Although Belaunzarán backed down, Quadri and Clouthier remained suspicious and critical.
Urzúa was President López Obrador’s first Secretary of the Treasury and later he thundered against his government and became an important critic, from his space in EL UNVERSAL.
According to the CDMX police in an information card, an employee of Urzúa’s house heard a noise, and found the economist lying with blood on his head.
Quadri tweeted the following on his personal account:
“Terrible news about the absurd death of Carlos Urzúa. My deep condolences. Brilliant and upright economist, vehement and uncomfortable opponent. Putinesque action by the Regime? It must be clarified immediately…”

Manuel Clouthier also sparked controversy by presuming that there have been “suspicious” deaths during López Obrador’s six-year term.
“Timely” deaths and/or murders in this six-year term: deaths of Moreno Valle and his wife, the Governor of Puebla; murder of journalist Lourdes Maldonado in Tijuana; death due to a “domestic accident” of Don Carlos Urzua, former Secretary of the Treasury of López O.

Belaunzarán uploaded a message that he later deleted on the same social network that said the following: “I am dismayed by the sudden death of Carlos Urzúa, AMLO’s first Secretary of the Treasury and one of the most lucid and informed critics of his government. I hope ( sic) clarify the reasons for his death, but I can’t help thinking about Putin. I won’t say more.”
Then he wrote:
“I deleted a tweet in which I expressed my dismay at the sudden death of Carlos Urzúa. I did not make any accusations, but in my stupor I recklessly mentioned an infamous character who came to mind, which could give rise to speculation. I I do it out of respect for his family.”
