On Tuesday, Russia imposed sanctions on US President Joe Biden and several other key figures in his administration.
It reports Reuters, which quotes the Russian Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
– This is a counter-reaction to and an inevitable consequence of the Russophobic policy of the current US administration. In a desperate attempt to maintain American hegemony, they have rejected all decency, the ministry said in a press release.
These are affected
There are a total of 13 names on the blacklist, among them Hillary Clinton and the president’s son, Hunter Biden:
- President Joe Biden
- Foreign Minister Anthony Blinken
- Secretary of Defense Lloyd Austin
- National Security Adviser Jake Sullivan
- CIA Chief William Burns
- Commander of the U.S. Army Mark Milley
- White House spokeswoman Jen Psaki
- International Development Manager Samantha Power
- Joe Biden’s son Hunter Biden
- Former Secretary of State and Presidential candidate Hillary Clinton
- Visefinansminister Adewail Adeyemo
- Reta Joe Lewis
- Duleep Singh
It is currently unclear whether the sanctions mean anything more than that the president and the other twelve people in the administration will be banned from Russia.
In the press release from the Russian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, they assure that they will maintain official relations with the United States.
Counter-reaction
The Russian sanction comes in the wake of the US imposing a number of sanctions on Russia and Russian oligarchs.
At a press briefing on Friday, Biden announced a ban on the import of several Russian goods, including vodka, diamonds, caviar and other seafood.
In addition, they introduced a ban on selling American luxury goods such as jewels, clothes and cars to Russia and Belarus. The export ban is aimed at Russian and Belarusian oligarchs around the world, it is stated in an announcement from the US Department of Commerce.
The US has also deprived Russia of its status as a preferred trading partner, as have the EU and the G7 countries. It allows for the introduction of tariffs on Russian goods.
