Politicians Answered When SBY Was Asked to Imitate Habibie by Luhut

Jakarta

Message from the Coordinating Minister for Maritime Affairs and Investment Luhut Binsar Pandjaitan for the 6th president of the Republic of Indonesia Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono (SBY) to act like BJ Habibie received a response from a number of politicians. Some support Luhut, some don’t.

The message for SBY to act like the 3rd President of the Republic of Indonesia, BJ Habibie, was conveyed by Luhut when he was a guest speaker at the Kick Andy Double Check event, which aired on Sunday (25/7/2021). The message came out when Luhut was asked about the ethics of juniors criticizing seniors. In the military, SBY is Luhut’s junior.

“I don’t mind. I said to Pak Bambang, okay, okay, it’s his rights. But all just leave it to the leaders who have finished their era, it’s better like Pak Habibie, everyone sits down, comes once criticize,” said Luhut as quoted from the YouTube Kick Andy Show, Tuesday (27/7/2021).

Luhut asked not to underestimate the ‘power’ parties currently in Indonesia. Who knows, said Luhut, there are parties who are smarter.

“We don’t need to feel that those who are in power now are below us. Maybe Mr. A, Mr. B are smarter. But now those in power are all right,” said Luhut while asserting that he was not in a position to attack SBY back.

That message then received a response from a number of politicians. There are PKB, Gerindra, PKS, PPP and of course the Democratic Party.

We start with PKB.

PKB Deputy General Chair (Waketum) Jazilul Fawaid emphasized that SBY was not Habibie. According to him, SBY does not need to be like Habibie.

“Mr. SBY is not Mr. Habibie and there is no need to ‘habibie’ him. After all, Mr. SBY has always maintained politeness in politics,” Jazilul told reporters, Tuesday (27/7).

Jazilul said Luhut and SBY must prioritize brotherhood, especially in the midst of the current COVID-19 pandemic. According to him, these two retired generals raised each other up.

The Deputy Chairman of the MPR RI asked all parties not to exaggerate Luhut’s statement. Because, everyone has their advantages and disadvantages.

“There’s no need to make a fuss. After all, we all understand Pak SBY and Pak Luhut, both generals who have a myriad of achievements, even though they have different styles, characters and career paths,” said Jazilul.

“But both of them are definitely not perfect, they have advantages and disadvantages. Of course, in order to cover each other’s shortcomings, we hope that both of them understand each other’s circumstances, we believe that both of them will never stop trying for the progress of their nation,” he added.

Besides Jazilul, Gerindra Party Deputy Fadli Zon also responded. The deputy governor of Gerindra, who is in charge of foreign affairs, is openly critical Luhut.

“Mr. SBY may see something is wrong and try to give input. It’s perfectly natural. It should be responded with appreciation,” said Fadli, Tuesday (27/7) night.

Fadli then brought up when SBY served as President and received criticism from Megawati Soekarnoputri as the 5th President of the Republic of Indonesia. Fadli was surprised by Luhut who advised SBY to be like Habibie.

“When Mr. SBY was president, Mrs. Mega was a former president but still actively led the party. It is natural to also give input and even criticize. Everyone has their own style,” said Fadli.
