Politically Active with Children: Addressing the Challenges of Parenthood and Political Engagement

Mit: Nina Kullrich (W3 Hamburg)

Politically active with children?

“I’ll explain that to you when you’re older!” or “I’ll get involved in politics again when the children are older!” Ever heard of it? In 2023 we started a new project at W3_: Politically active with children, with which we would like to make a contribution to the compatibility of parenthood and political engagement. The Randale Zentrale is a series of workshops for children and their caregivers: here we want to create a space in which the focus is on learning with and from each other as well as being politically active together. The political toddler group is a playdate for babies and at the same time a space for socio-political exchange for those caring for them.

In her lecture, Nina Kullrich will present the project “Politically active with children” and finally talk to you about the individual challenges and structural hurdles that arise for politically active people as soon as they care for children.

Dr. Nina Kullrich (she/her) is an education consultant with a focus on (queer) feminisms, gender politics and critical whiteness in the W3_. As a trainer for gender-reflective educational work and change manager with additional qualifications in non-violent conflict resolution and bodyism-critical pedagogy, Nina Kullrich designs and leads workshops and advises cultural institutions. She is also responsible for the W3 project “Politically active with children”.
