SPÖ. ÖVP and FPÖ sharply criticized the blockade of the Brenner autobahn.
The Brenner Autobahn (A13) in Tyrol near Matrei am Brenner (Innsbruck-Land district) has been temporarily blocked by climate activists of the “last generation” for the second time this summer. After about an hour, the protest was broken up by the police around noon on Saturday. The twelve activists had to reckon with ads. According to the police, the traffic jams then gradually cleared up.
However, the renewed Brenner blockade also led to reactions from state politicians. Deputy Governor Georg Dornauer (SPÖ) called the action “disturbing and absurd”. He is aware of the urgency of the topic, but: “Urgency always harbors the risk of radicalization.” Tyrol’s ÖVP club boss Jakob Wolf said: “It has nothing to do with climate protection.” On Tyrol’s motorways, a speed limit of 100 already applies almost everywhere, and the activists would be better off “sticking somewhere in the east or directly to the Ministry of Transport”. The “climate terrorists” would “dance around on the nose” of the ÖVP, SPÖ and Greens, criticized Tyrol’s FPÖ leader Markus Abwerzger. He identified an “alarm signal” and “complete failure at all political levels”.
