Polissia Vorskla – overview and report of the match of the Cup of Ukraine on April 4

Ukraine, Cup of Ukraine, 1/2 finals

“Polissya” – “Vorskla” – 0:1

Key: Myakushko, 45

Missed penalty: Budkivskyi, 81 (P)

In the opening minutes, the teams were put on caution. The main events unfolded in the middle of the field. Poltava residents gradually took over the initiative. In the middle of the half, the first moments appeared. So Stepaniuk dared to shoot from a distance – Boyka saved. And later, Chelyadin could not close the transfer of his partner.

In the 35th minute, the “Polish Wolves” almost took advantage of the standard. It was Shabanov at the far post who miraculously didn’t put Budkivskyi’s pass into the goal. And in the next attack, the forward himself sent the ball into Isenka’s goalpost with his head.

But “Vorskla” went into the break as the leader. Serhii Dolgansky’s team scored a goal in the locker room. Stepaniuk threw a pass from the left flank to Myakushka with his chest, and he hit it under the crossbar from the edge of the penalty area – 0:1.

“Polissya” tried to add to the attack at the beginning of the second half. Luifer delayed his shot after a promising pass from Budkivskyi. Later, the latter’s shot was blocked by a defender. Instead, Nazarenko’s attempt from distance was leveled by Sissoko.

Time passed, and the territorial advantage of Zhytomyr did not bring any dividends to the owners. The “Polish Wolves” received an additional boost from the forced pause due to an air alarm. Immediately after the resumption of play, Khrypchuk fouled Budkivskyi – penalty kick. The victim himself approached the mark, but Isenko took the striker’s kick into the corner!

In the end, “Vorskla” kept the winning score and reached the final of the tournament for the third time in history. In the 2008/09 season, the Poltava team won the trophy, and in the 2019/20 campaign, the “white and green” lost the decisive match to “Dynamo” Kyiv in the post-match penalty shootout.
