Polish U-18 National Team Wins Friendly Tournament in Croatia

The Polish U-18 national team won the friendly tournament held in Croatia. After a great victory over Saudi Arabia, Marcin Włodarski’s team defeated Austria 4-0. Daniel Mikołajewski, a player of the Italian Parma Calcio, scored a hat-trick in this match.

The September training camp for the Polish U-18 national team was marked by a friendly tournament in Croatia. This was one of the stages of preparation for the world championships, which will take place this year in November. The team led by Marcin Włodarski started the tournament with a 4-4 draw with Croatia. Then came a 4-0 win against Saudi Arabia after a double by Marcel Regula and goals by Daniel Mikołajewski and Jakub Krzyżanowski. At the end of the tournament, Poland competed with Austria and had a chance to win the tournament.

Poland won the friendly tournament. Hat-trick for the Parma striker

The match against Austria started brilliantly for the Poles, as they were leading 1-0 from the fifth minute after Daniel Mikołajewski’s goal, following a cross from a free kick. 21 minutes later, the Polish national team received a penalty kick after a foul on Oskar Tomczyk, and it was the injured player himself who defeated the rival goalkeeper. In the 37th minute, the Poles received a second penalty for a foul on Krzysztof Kolanko, which was now converted by Mikołajewski. The Austrians were practically confined to their own half and did not pose much of a threat to Jakub Stępak’s goal.

This situation did not change in the second half. It is true that the Austrians gained some advantage in possession of the ball, but not much resulted from it. In one situation, Patryk Olejnik hit the crossbar. Finally, in the 83rd minute, Mikołajewski, playing for Parma, completed a hat-trick after an assist from Mike Huras. Thanks to this victory, the Poles won the friendly tournament in Croatia and did not have to wait for the result of the clash between Croatia and Saudi Arabia.

Official page “Ball connects us” writes about an interesting situation that occurred during the second half of the match against Austria. “At one point, about fifteen minutes before the end of the match, one of our representatives made a backward pass and shouted that we had a score, which enraged coach Włodarski. ‘So what if we have a score?! We want to score goals!’ – it got carried away from the Poles’ bench,” we read.

Now the youth team is focusing on the U-17 World Championships, which will be held in November this year in Indonesia. Peru was originally supposed to host the tournament, but FIFA deprived them of this right in April this year because it was not known whether the country would be ready for such an event in terms of infrastructure.

The World Cup will take place from November 10 to December 2, and the draw for the U-17 World Cup groups will take place on Friday, September 15 at 16:00. Poland will be drawn from the fourth basket.
