Edition My city reported that the Polish studio Reikon Games, known for the cyberpunk action game Ruiner, has undergone mass layoffs.
According to Kotaku’s sources, between 60 and 70 people were laid off on January 23, representing approximately 56% of the company’s total workforce. Reikon Games has not officially announced the layoffs, but studio employees have begun posting public messages about the layoffs on social media and LinkedIn.
January 2024 has already become a hot month for layoffs in the gaming industry—about 5,700 people were laid off in one month. Earlier it became known that Microsoft decided to fire about 1,900 people, including a large number of developers from the Blizzard studio, which was forced to cancel one of its projects because of the incident.
Against the backdrop of what is happening, experts believe that 2024 could become a “year of closures” for the gaming industry – that is, mass layoffs and studio closures could continue until 2025.
