The Polish state news agency reported today, Saturday, that the Internal Security Service is investigating a cyber attack on the country’s railway network that disrupted trains last night.
Deputy Special Services Coordinator Stanisław Zarin told the Polish News Agency that the Internal Security Service and the police are investigating unauthorized use of the train traffic management system.
The agency said that hackers used railway frequencies to send a signal that led to an emergency stop of trains in northwest Poland, causing delays.
Zarin said the incident was dealt with seriously, after recent Russian attempts to destabilize Poland.
He continued, “Such attempts are carried out by the Russian Federation in cooperation with Belarus, and for this reason also we do not underestimate any signals that reach the Internal Security Agency.”
Meanwhile, the railway operating company is investigating two train derailments and two other trains colliding on Thursday. No one was injured in the two incidents.
Zarin said there was currently no indication that Thursday’s incidents were linked to the cyberattack.
