The distinguished scientist Prof. died at the age of 67. Ph.D. Stanisław Michalczyk, who for years lectured at the Institute of Journalism and Media Communication of the University of Silesia.

The Institute of Journalism and Media Communication of the University of Silesia in Katowice announced the professor’s death on Friday.

“Professor Stanisław Michalczyk, Ph.D., died at the age of 67 – a distinguished scientist who had been working at our Institute for decades. The professor made an invaluable contribution to the development of Polish communication sciences and raised several generations of Polish journalists,” the institute said.

In December 1987, Professor Michalczyk defended his doctoral thesis “The role of urban and urban-microregional weeklies of the Silesian press and publishing region in local social communication.” In 2001, he obtained his habilitation on the basis of a thesis entitled “Local media in the communication system. Contemporary trends and development conditions.” A year later, he was awarded the title of professor in the field of humanities.

He dealt with the problems of the theory of mass communication, political and local communication. He is the author of eight monographs, editor of collective works and author of approximately one hundred scientific articles. He lectured on the theory of mass communication and political communication.

He was awarded the Award of the Rector of the University of Silesia six times and served as an associate professor at the Institute of Journalism and Media Communication at the Faculty of Social Sciences of the University of Silesia.
