“A moment ago I got a phone call from Polish Radio 24 that there is a» record «from the management and the broadcast is removed. As W. Churchill said,» Oil is more important than the blood of Armenians «” – said the priest on Twitter, the conflict between Armenia and Azerbaijan over Nagorno-Karabakh.
How does he comment on this decision? – I’m surprised by that. The editor responsible for the broadcast called me several times. He asked me to give an interview about the Armenians and the Armenian Catholic Church in Nagorno-Karabakh. I agreed, because I was there once, I have contacts with this environment, and for many years I was also the chaplain of Armenians in Poland – says Onet Fr. Tadeusz Isakowicz-Zaleski.
– We made an appointment at On 19, but at 5 p.m. the editor called me with information that the PR24 editorial office had blocked my interview. He used the term that “there is a record” – in the censorship sense – both on my person and on this matter, without explaining what it is all about – adds Fr. Isakowicz-Zaleski.
Instead of a broadcast with the priest, at 19 a program was broadcast in which editor Rafał Dudkiewicz talked to the economist Dr. Marian Szołucha on the condition of the Polish economy.
How does the clergyman judge the reason for filming the broadcast? – I don’t know, I think it’s a political situation. It is often emphasized that Armenians have lived in Poland for 700 years and have always been loyal citizens of the Republic of Poland, but due to e.g. pressure Turkish embassy, the Polish government did not want to recognize the Armenian genocide. In 2004, the then deputy minister of foreign affairs (Jan Truszczyński – ed.) Blocked the unveiling of the monument to the victims in Krakow. Then the whole conflict broke out, but Cardinal Franciszek Macharski finally consecrated this monument. A year later, the Seym adopted a resolution condemning the Armenian genocide. Further tensions with Turkey emerged. To this day, I am banned from entering Turkey, I was refused a visa – he reminds.
In his opinion, “it is scandalous that you arrange an interview, then cancel it and say that there is such a thing as a” record “”. – It should be explained from start to finish why it happened. In the times of the Polish People’s Republic, there was a censorship record, whether it was for Katyn or the Eastern Borderlands – he adds.
– It is evident that politicians are interfering here. On the radio, of course, I would say what the Nagorno-Karabakh case looks like. Maybe someone from Azerbaijan or Turkey, which supports him, does not like it. But this is not the way to act in the public media, he says.
We also tried to contact representatives of the Polish Radio. So far, we have not received an answer to the question of why the program was canceled.
