In an interview with the Financial Times newspaper, Morawiecki said his government will “defend our rights with all the weapons at our disposal.” That suggests that Poland could thwart the EU’s ambitious plans to cut greenhouse gas emissions.
Morawiecki’s belligerent tone follows a European summit at which an attempt was made to appease the mood. Tensions had run high after Poland’s decision to reject European law in certain cases. Brussels and other member states see this as undermining European agreements. Earlier, the conservative-nationalist government had already manipulated the judiciary to its will.
The protracted conflict delayed the approval of 36 billion euros from the corona recovery fund for Poland. The Netherlands, among others, wants the amount to be retained for the time being.
