Polish Prime Minister Donald Tusk did not rule out the possibility of temporarily closing the Polish border for trade in goods with Ukraine at a time when Poland is rocked by mass protests by farmers, France Press reported, quoted by BTA.
“We are discussing with the Ukrainian side the temporary closure of the border and the interruption of trade in goods in general,” said the Polish Prime Minister, stressing that this would be a “painful decision for both sides.”

“I am ready to make difficult decisions regarding the border with Ukraine, always in communication with Kiev, so that there is no unnecessary tension. However, we need to find a long-term solution,” added Tusk.
He also announced that tomorrow he will meet with representatives of farmers who have been demonstrating for several weeks, blocking roads across the country and border crossings with Ukraine in protest against Ukrainian grain imports and the provisions of the European Green Deal.
Poland has been one of Ukraine’s main backers since the Russian invasion began in February 2022, but relations between the two countries have soured in recent months over trade disputes, notably over Brussels’ opening of European borders to Ukrainian agricultural products.
Tusk also said that the import quotas for Ukrainian products proposed so far by Brussels and Kiev were “unacceptable” for Poland.
