Polish President Andrzej Duda will speak with NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg on Monday about the missile that fell near Bydgoszcz.
This was stated by the head of the Bureau of International Policy under the President of Poland, Marcin Przydacz, reports “European truthwith reference to RMF FM.
“Today the President will talk to the NATO Secretary General, we are also in contact with our American allies, we will talk about this situation,” Przydacz said, referring to the situation around the Russian X-55 missile found near Bydgoszcz.
What exactly Duda will discuss with Stoltenberg is still unknown. It is also not yet clear what NATO allies know about the incident. The Chief of the General Staff of the Polish Army, General Raimund Andrzejczak, recently admitted that at the last meeting of the chiefs of staff of 31 NATO countries, the topic of the Russian missile was not discussed.
Przydacz says that further findings on this issue are expected to lead to the formulation of “an appropriate diplomatic response to the east.” Before that, however, it is necessary to establish exactly where the missile came from and why it hit the territory of a state that is not participating in any hostilities, he explained.
On April 27, the Ministry of Defense reported that the remains of an unidentified military facility had been found in Zamość, about 15 km from Bydgoszcz. It was emphasized that the situation does not threaten the safety of residents. The district prosecutor’s office in Gdańsk opened an investigation into the case.
A day later, the operational commander, Lieutenant General Tomasz Petrovsky, announced that an “intense investigation” was underway in the case. As he noted, the goal is to establish how the missile could have got there, as well as its origin. General Petrovsky also recalled the events of mid-December last year, when the Russians carried out one of their massive air attacks on Ukraine, and pointed to attempts at psychological influence by Russia.
Earlier, Polish Defense Minister Mariusz Blaszczak said that in December he did not report a missile hitting the airspace of the countrythe wreckage of which was recently found in northern Poland – although the military tracked it and tried to look for it.
Before that, the media, citing sources, reported that according to the first conclusions of the Technical Institute of the Polish Air Force the wreckage found near Bydgoszcz is from the Russian X-55.
