Polish president says Ukraine will not participate in missile accident investigation

Polish President Andrzej Duda has said he will not involve Ukrainian experts in an investigation into the missile explosion in the east of the country.

According to the Russian news agency “TAS”, President Duda said yesterday (17) at a press conference: “To participate in the investigation, the relevant provisions of international law and international treaties must be observed.”

President Duda stressed that participation in the investigation of the missile incident is possible only on the basis of international law.

Earlier, Polish presidential spokesman Jakub Kumoc said on Twitter that Ukrainian experts had been granted access to the crash site.

“If Ukrainian representatives want to see the investigation, they can show it, but participating in the investigation or accessing documents and information requires clear grounds under international law and international treaties,” Duda explained.

The current investigation is being conducted jointly by Polish and American experts and, according to President Duda, the investigation on the spot is expected to last dozens of hours.

Earlier, on the 15th, a missile hit a village on the Ukrainian border in eastern Poland, killing two people.

In response, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky condemned Russia and urged the West to “act”.

President Zelensky also insisted that Ukraine participate in the investigation.
