Polish President Andrzej Duda on Formation of New Government and Power Change in Poland

Polish President Andrzej Duda explained his decision to entrust the formation of a new government to Mateusz Morawiecki, who represents Law and Justice.

The Polish president said this in an interview with the weekly Sieci, an excerpt of which is given RMF24reports “European Truth”.

According to Duda, representatives of the opposition “did not convince” him that it was worth abandoning the tradition of entrusting the formation of the government to the party that won the parliamentary elections.

“According to the current constitution, all presidents, including my predecessors, Presidents Kwasniewski, Kaczynski and Komorowski, have always entrusted the mission of forming a government to the group that won the elections. The current elections were won by Law and Justice,” he explained.

The Polish president said he said that during consultations with coalition representatives he wanted to “see a common and unified program” and hear as many specifics as possible, but, according to Duda, this was not the case.

Let us recall that in October parliamentary elections were held in Poland, as a result of which the ruling party “Law and Justice” has a relative majority, insufficient to form a new government. However, President Duda entrusted the right to form a government to PiS representative Mateusz Morawiecki.
