Polish police on Tuesday rejected violently a group of migrants who had tried to enter Poland from the border with Belarus, using tear gas and fire hydrants. According to what was written by the Polish Ministry of Defense, it did so in response to a stone throwing by migrants.
Thousands of migrants and asylum seekers have been on the border between Belarus and Poland for weeks and their situation is at the center of a political conflict between the Belarusian government and the European Union. The migrants, mainly from the Middle East, were brought to Belarus by the regime of dictator Alexander Lukashenko, and then pushed to enter Poland in order to put the Polish and European authorities in difficulty.
The situation has been going on for months, given that Poland – one of the most hostile European countries towards migrants – has always refused to accept them. In recent weeks their number has grown significantly, and the level of tension between Belarus and the European Union got even higher.
