Polish mistake – six swimmers forced to go home from the Olympics in Tokyo

Sims Aleksandra Polańska, Dominika Kossakowska, Alicja Tchórz, Bartosz Piszczorowicz, Jan Hołub and Mateusz Chowaniec have left Japan, threatening to take legal action.

“Imagine that you dedicate five years of your life and strive for a new start in the most important competition… you give up your private life and work, abandon your family … and it all ends in a total failure”, writes Tchórz, who competed in the Olympics both 2012 and 2016, on Facebook.

Mateusz Chowaniec rages against the Polish Swimming Federation on his Instagram account.

“I am deeply shocked by this absurd situation, which should never have happened. All I want is to wake up from this inconceivable nightmare. But thanks to the incompetent people at the swimming association, I am now back in Poland instead of in Japan “, he writes.

Chairman of the Polish Swimming Federation Pawel Slominski apologizes to his swimmers:

“I feel great regret, sadness and bitterness about our swimmers’ qualification for the Olympics in Tokyo,” he said in a statement.

“This should not happen, the swimmers’ reactions are understandable.”

At the same time, several Polish Olympic swimmers have signed an open letter demanding the resignation of the federal board after the incident, reports the swimming site Swimswam.

“The association’s actions have led to a situation that is unparalleled in Polish sports history,” the letter states.

“In addition, Polish swimming – both in the eyes of the public and for potential sponsors – has been revealed as a big joke.”

Originally, the Polish Swimming Federation sent 23 swimmers to the Olympics.
