Polish Government Implements Radical Changes for Ukrainian Refugees: Rzeczpospolita Newspaper

The Polish government is radically changing the rules applicable to refugees from Ukraine, writes the Rzeczpospolita newspaper.

The publication calls the changes “revolutionary amendments,” specifying that they will affect those visitors from Ukraine who enjoy free food and accommodation. As the newspaper writes, the government “wants to have more control over refugees.” In particular, the system of financing the accommodation of Ukrainians (40 zlotys per day per person) in small guest houses for up to ten people is expected to be eliminated. According to the Deputy Minister of Internal Affairs of Poland Matej Dushchikthere are abuses there.

“It happens that their owners use refugees for unpaid work,” writes Rzeczpospolita.

According to the newspaper, the Polish authorities plan to pay for the stay of Ukrainians “only in those places where there is an agreement with the voivode,” and today these are collective accommodation centers where 39,937 people live (only 4.2% of refugees.
