The independent farmers’ association “Solidarity” announced that it has decided to block all border crossing points and roads in Poland.
“It has been decided to announce a general farmers’ strike throughout the country, which will begin with the blockade of all border crossings between Poland and Ukraine, as well as the blockade of roads and highways in certain voivodships on February 9, 2024 at 10 a.m.,” says the statement of “Solidarity”.
It is not yet clear how long the border crossings will be blocked. It is planned that the road blockade in some voivodeships will last for a month – from February 9 to March 10.
“Solidarity” stated that the reason for the blockade is “Brussels’ decision on the import of agricultural products from Ukraine and the passivity of the Polish government”.
“The position of Brussels is unacceptable for our entire agricultural community. Moreover, the passivity of the Polish authorities and the announcement of cooperation with the European Commission, as well as the announcements of compliance with all the decisions of the European Commission regarding the import of agricultural products and food products from Ukraine, leave us no other option than to declare a general strike ,” emphasized the farmers.
Polish farmers and truckers last blocked the border from November to mid-January, when Polish truckers reached an agreement with the government on several of their demands and ended their protests.
