Korona‘s manager, Jacek Zieliński, did not hide his satisfaction with his team’s performance, although he also felt a bit dissatisfied.
– Cup matches are a different story when it comes to the structure of the competition and drama. What matters most here is promotion, and we did it, saving several players at the same time. This match had different phases, because the first 30 minutes were our absolute dominance, and then we unnecessarily took our foot off the gas pedal. We gave these young people, very good ones, the opportunity to gain momentum and we also created problems for ourselves. We also need to draw conclusions from mistakes that may cost us dearly in the future, commented the coach.
In another already completed match, Sandecja Nowy Sącz won against Pogoń Grodzisk Mazowiecki 1-0 (0-0). The team from Grodzisk was counting on extending the series of 23 matches in a row without defeat, during which they defeated, among others, the Ekstraklasa team, Cracovia.
However, Sandecja interrupted Pogoń’s good streak thanks to Karol Smajdor, who scored the ball into the net from close range in the 60th minute of the game. Coach Marcin Sasal’s players attacked and had many opportunities to equalize, but they were unable to lead to overtime.
The draw for the 1/8 final of the Polish Cup will take place on November 4. Puszcza Niepołomice, Śląsk Wrocław, Ruch Chorzów, Wisła Kraków, Pogoń Szczecin and Olimpia Grudziądz have already advanced to the next round.
