Polish Cup Final. Pogoń Szczecin – Wisła Kraków. Broadcast
For the hosts of Thursday’s match, Pogoń Szczecin, the upcoming final will be the fourth in history. However, they never managed to win, just like in other competitions, so this will be a chance for them to win the first cup in the 76-year history of the club. Coach Jens Gustafsson’s team is the clear favorite because it has already defeated rivals from the top of the top league.
Pogoń started by beating Podbeskidzie Bielsko-Biała, and later had to face Górnik Zabrze, Lech Poznań and Jagiellonia Bialystok. She won against her last rival after a goal at the very end of overtime and advanced to the final. This is the way of Pogoń:
- Round of 16: 1-0 with Podbeskidzie Bielsko-Biała
- Round of 16: 2:1 with Górnik Zabrze
- 1/4 final: 1:0 with Lech Poznań
- 1/2 final: 2:1 with Jagiellonia Białystok after extra time.
In turn, Wisła Kraków has already won the Polish Cup four times, and the upcoming match will be a chance for them to win their first title since 2011, when they won the national championship. The first-league team is the biggest revelation of the competition, because along the way it eliminated league rivals and later strong top-league players. Moreover, he played one more match than his rivals. Here is Wisła’s path to the final:
- 1st round: 2:1 with Lechia Gdańsk after extra time.
- Round of 16: 3:0 with Polonia Warszawa
- Round of 16: 4:1 with Stal Rzeszów
- 1/4 final: 2:1 with Widzew Łódź after extra time.
- 1/2 final: 2:1 with Piast Gliwice
The last match of both teams was played in March 2022 and Pogoń defeated Wisła 4:1 without any problems.
