Polish cross-border workers are claiming compensation from Germany for Covid-19 tests / Day

Germany said on Friday that it is classifying neighboring Poland as a high-risk Covid-19 zone, which means that entering from there requires a negative Covid-19 test performed in the last 48 hours.

“The German side should find a solution where (..) nothing would have to be paid for the tests,” a spokesman for the Free Border Citizens’ Initiative told the DPA.

He emphasized that the German requirement to carry out Covid-19 tests so frequently places an unfair financial burden on cross-border workers.

Mecklenburg-Vorpommern set up test centers at mid-March at two border crossing points. For cross-border workers, the fee for taking the Covid-19 test is ten euros, and for the other 20 euros.

Brandenburg plans to launch a similar testing procedure soon.

The Robert Koha Institute classifies areas with more than 200 new infections per 100,000 population per week as high-risk areas.

In Poland, 26,405 new cases of Covid-19 were registered on Saturday.
