Polish conductor Tadeusz Wojchowskis together with the Liepāja Symphony Orchestra will play a concert in the “Lielais dzintars” concert hall on April 20 at 18.00, in which the magical sound of the flute will be intertwined with the power of Antonín Dvořák’s symphonic music.
The Liepaja Symphony Orchestra has collaborated with Tadeusz Wojciechowski, a very popular and internationally recognized Polish maestro in Latvia, many times, the last time was in 2012 at the International Pianism Stars Festival, so this will be his debut in the “Lielais dzintars” concert hall.
On April 20, the long-awaited return of the Polish maestro to Liepāja audiences will take place with a concert program in which the overture to the first Polish national opera “Halka” by Stanislav Moniusko and one of the most popular symphonic works by Czech composer Antonin Dvořák – the Seventh Symphony will be played. It is one of Dvořák’s masterpieces, demonstrating the composer’s ability to combine the national and the universal, the traditional and the innovative, the emotional and the intellectual. This symphony reflects Dvořák’s love for his homeland and his admiration for the new world.
This evening is also expected to be premiered – it will be experienced by Latvian composer Marina Gribinčikas Concert for Flute and Orchestra, in which the concertmaster of the Liepaja Symphony Orchestra’s flute group Reinis Lapa will play the role of soloist.
Tadeusz Voicehovskis, who, by the way, is known as one of the best interpreters of Monuško and Dvořák, gained attention and recognition in Latvia both at the performances of the Latvian National Opera, and at the International Pianism Stars Festival organized by the Liepāja Symphony Orchestra, and also at concerts with the Latvian National Symphony Orchestra. In 2016, Charles Gounod’s opera “Faust” staged under the direction of Tadeus Voichhovskis received the Latvian Grand Music Prize.
The conductor won prizes in international competitions and visited many notable concert halls in most European countries, the USA, Japan, Colombia, Mexico, Turkey; made numerous recordings for EMI, Polish Radio and Danish Radio. In 2007, the maestro received the Gloria Artis silver medal for contribution to culture from the Polish Ministry of Culture and the National Heritage Foundation.
The maestro has been conducting opera and ballet performances at the Warsaw National Opera since the 1970s. From 1982 to 1996, he worked as the chief conductor of the Royal Danish Academy Orchestra. In 1994, Wojciechowski was appointed artistic director of the Polish Radio Orchestra and Choir.
