Polish coatings of quantum dots in windows of new cars

Company ML System designed and prepared a special laminated glass that is complemented a nanolayer of quantum dots. Solar windows generate energy to power the parking air conditioning, electronics, our smartphone, as well as LED dipped beam headlights. Transparent photovoltaic cells are the future of the automotive industry. New vehicles are increasingly packed with state-of-the-art electronics, and powering it requires energy that is now supplied from batteries powered by the engine and the combustion of fossil fuels. It does not matter whether we are dealing with an internal combustion or electric car. Currently, oil and coal are involved.

“Quantum dots absorb more and to a greater extent than the most popular semiconductor in photovoltaics, i.e. silicon. Moreover, they do not lose efficiency over time and are resistant to weather conditions. And above all, they can be completely transparent. Quantum dots are more stable, which means that they do not degrade, they can be completely translucent or have a fixed color, which is impossible with a perovskite materialdo not have to contain harmful elements “- we can read on the ML System website.

Poles want to change this sad reality with their invention. Engineers from ML System emphasize that Solar windows work both while driving and when parked. The only condition is that the car is in direct sunlight. The more there are, the more clean energy will power the vehicle. Interestingly, photovoltaic windows also mean that the car will heat up less in full sun.

The ML System company was the first in the world to patent quantum dot coatings already in 2018 and since then this technology has been very popular. Its representatives have already established cooperation with the Pilkington group. As a result, car windows with quantum coatings will appear on sale.

The great news is that the panels will provide free energy on hot and sunny days to power the air conditioning systemThanks to that, before we go on a journey by vehicle, we will already enter its cool interior. The Poles’ project received several million zlotys in funding from the Polish Agency for Enterprise Development (PARP).

The ML System company focuses not only on providing solar glass for cars. They are also on sale heating window sills with charging function, glass with variable forethought, and energy-generating systems for use in the windows of houses, apartments and even office buildings. The systems can deliver from 100 to 400 W / m2.
