Polio Vaccination Progress in Central Java Falls Short of Target: Health Department Issues Appeal

RADARSEMARANG.ID, Semarang – The Central Java Health Service (Dinkes) says that polio or paralysis cannot be cured.

As a result of the discovery of the case in Klaten, Central Java implemented a Polio sub-PIN with a target of 3.9 million children in each district/city.

The first round of Sub PIN Polio was held simultaneously on January 15 2024.

However, the achievement has not yet reached 100 percent.

There are still several areas in Central Java whose progress is below 95 percent.

This was conveyed by the Head of the Central Java Health Office, Yunita Dyah Suminar when filling a workshop entitled Risk Communication in Responding to Polio Incidents in Central Java Province.

He said that this target has not been achieved due to the frequent rejection of polio vaccination.

According to him, there are still districts/cities that have not reached the target of 95 percent in carrying out polio vaccination.

These include Surakarta, Semarang, Pekalongan, Wonogiri Regency and Temanggung Regency.

According to him, the lowest was in Temanggung at 89 percent. Even though the difference is small, it is an important figure to achieve.

“The factor that happened there was that he achieved more than 89 but the data input had not been completed, which was a gap,” he explained.

He also appealed to ensure that polio cases no longer occur in Indonesia. Especially Central Java.

This is because paralysis due to polio cannot be treated because it attacks the nerves.
