The 35-year-old forensic scientist carried cocaine and marijuana with your car
Police officer Lazar Lazarov, detained for drug possession, took BGN 1,000 per course. He was only a courier and transported drugs from one point to another, Interior Ministry Chief of Security Stefcho Bankov announced on Friday.
Lazarov, a 35-year-old criminal police officer, was detained on Thursday afternoon. His colleagues observed him for several months, but could not detect him at the time of delivery. On April 15, however, they received an anonymous signal that a drug deal was being prepared. A team was immediately formed and their colleague’s car was stopped in the capital’s Student City district. Lazarov admitted that he had drugs in his possession.
A search of his inside pocket turned up a substance resembling cocaine, and a ball of grassy mass resembling marijuana was found in the armrest of the car’s glove compartment. Immediately after that, a field test of these two substances was performed, which confirmed that they were cocaine and marijuana, “said Sofia District Prosecutor Nevena Zartova. And he explained that the policeman, who works in the “Search” sector of the capital’s 6th police station, refused a field test to show whether he was driving drunk.
According to operational data, Lazarov, against whom several disciplinary proceedings are underway, only transported the drugs to dealers. He worked mainly in the Studentski Grad district, and at the time of his arrest he was in hospital. “The minimum courier amount is over BGN 1,000 per course. The course is one-time – from point A to point B “, said Bankov. He and his colleagues are still investigating where Lazarov got his drugs from. The man was detained for 72 hours and will be asked for permanent arrest on charges of drug possession. He has been working for 9 years in the 6th Regional University.
This is not the first arrest of a police officer in Student City for drug-related crimes. In October 2017, Alexander Stanev and Ecevit Osman from the 7th Regional Police Department were detained. At the time of their arrest, it was announced that they had spread an umbrella over dealers and collected a “peace fee” from prostitutes. One was found with BGN 2,000, probably as a bribe, and the other had drugs with him.
Lazarov is not the only police officer detained in recent days. A week ago, a beret was arrested for stealing from Sofia’s homes along with several bandits, Bankov said. He called his arrest “unprecedented.” The 40-year-old policeman was picking up jewelry, while the other thieves were looking only for car keys to pick up later. Both the beret and his comrades are accused, and the investigation against them continues.
