Policeman kneels on the neck of arrested black man

The death of African-American George Floyd from police violence has caused horror and ongoing, even violent, protests in the United States against racism and police violence. There are videos showing the last minutes before Floyd’s death – a policeman kneeled on his neck for several minutes, didn’t stop, although Floyd said at least 16 times that he couldn’t breathe, and stayed on top of him, when he was passed out.

Now several videos from May 18 from Sarasota in Florida have appeared, on which an official also kneels on the neck of a handcuffed black man. The Sarasota police, among other things, commented on Facebook after the videos appeared about the case and said that the officer had been given leave and an internal investigation into the case had been initiated.

Police chief “worried”

The statement goes on to say that police chief DiPino worries whether the scenes in the video are. “Although the officer appears to be moving his leg on the man’s back at some point, we do not teach, use, or endorse this tactic.” There is also a video from a police helicopter of the incident, which the police station also posted on Facebook.

In contrast to George Floyd, the arrested man was not injured by the police violence and did not need medical help.
