The Sørvest Police District filed a lawsuit against a 30-year-old policeman for drunk driving in February.
A thorough investigation led to the indictment of a policeman in his 30s, the Sørvest police district confirms The Bergen newspaper. Bergens Tidende writes that the case will go before the Haugaland and Sunnhordland District Court in the new year.
The policeman’s defender, lawyer Ove Kahrs Wangensteen, reacts to the accusation.
– We are disappointed and surprised that an indictment has been issued. We believe there is no evidential basis for the prosecution’s allegation, counsel tells BA.
It was on the night of 6 February that police received a report of a car that had been found abandoned after going off the road in Stord.
An hour after the descent, they found the owner of the car. Police suspected the man was under the influence of drugs and did a blood test. According to the indictment, the blood alcohol level was 1.39 three hours after the alleged descent. The car owner has always denied driving the car that night.
The policeman has been suspended from his job since the incident.
