On Wednesday, the police put the leads in the investigation into the fatal collision of fourteen-year-old Tamar from Marken on the table. “In this case, we want to involve the public as soon as possible,” the police explained to NU.nl on Friday. “Damage doesn’t last forever on a car.”
It is two weeks ago this weekend that the girl’s body was found. On the night of July 25, she had gone out after a discussion about her bedtime. Agents found her on the roadside in Zuiderwoude.
In many cases, police investigations proceed quietly: the public is not informed, or is informed at a later stage, of possible evidence in the case and is asked for tips. In this case, the police already distributed photos of the car that might have been involved in the collision, a black cap and pieces of plastic that were found in the roadside on Wednesday.
The police explain that it was necessary in this investigation to involve citizens as soon as possible in the investigation. “Damage doesn’t last forever on a car.” And now two birds are also killed in one fell swoop. For example, not only car connoisseurs have informed the police what the black cap is for, but car repair companies are also alerted to it. This can lead to the vehicle involved in the accident being recognized when it is returned for repair.
It is a lot of work to find out the more than fourteen hundred tips that have been received, the police explain. “But even if only 10 percent is usable, we have 140 good tips.” The police also mention that it is very special that so many people think along. “A colleague sent photos from the mailbox that was flooding. We’ve never seen that.”
On video images you can see that that night a car is parked in the Kruisbaakweg in Marken. More than two hours later, two people look for a while at the front of the gray Mazda 3. Then they get in and drive further into the village.
The police are specific looking for tips about this car and hopes people have seen the vehicle driving before or after the accident. Tips about the plastic pieces are also still welcome.

Car has a white registration
The Mazda 3 in the images has a white registration. This may mean that it is a foreign license plate. The police have circulated information about the case through Interpol should the vehicle be driven across the border.
The girl’s mother has been on a broadcast of On 1 said that I still have many questions. “Did she notice that a car was coming? That remains unanswered, only the person who was in the car knows that.” The surviving relatives therefore hope that the responsible party will still report himself. “She was left on the roadside like an animal.”
Police previously said that the teenager probably didn’t feel the blow. “She died instantly.” Tamar was buried in a private circle last Saturday.
