Traffic Director Polda Metro Jaya Kombes Sambodo Purnomo Yugo admitted that his party took discretionary steps to open road barrier used to block the road at Pertigaan Lampiri, Kalimalang, East Jakarta on Saturday (3/7).
“Yes [lakukan diskresi]. Due to density [kendaraan] as a result of the insulation carried out was quite long,” said Sambodo to CNNIndonesia.com, Saturday (3/7).
Similarly, the Head of Public Relations of the Polda Metro Jaya Yusri Yunus said that the officers in Kalimalang had taken discretionary measures because the public did not want to be disciplined. But tomorrow and next, he said, the police will start taking strict action against those who ‘cheat’ or violate the emergency PPKM restrictions.
“If there are still violations tomorrow, there are still many people, we will take firm action, we will definitely take firm action,” said Yusri.
He emphasized that the isolation policy in the Emergency PPKM was formed solely to protect the public from the corona virus.
“Why the police’s discretion? Because people don’t want to be disciplined. How do people want to be disciplined. This is to save the community, really,” said Yusri.
Yusri appealed to people who do not work in essential sectors to stay at home during Emergency PPKM. He is worried that the transmission of the corona virus will increase if community mobility continues to be carried out during Emergency PPKM.
Previously, the police imposed the opening and closing of the Lampiri T-junction road block, Kalimalang, East Jakarta on the first day of the implementation of Emergency PPKM, Saturday (3/7). This action was carried out several times after a traffic jam occurred on Jalan Inspeksi Kalimalang.
The blocking lasted until 13.25 WIB. The police then made the first discretion by opening the partition due to the pile of vehicles. For a few minutes, the road traffic returned to normal.
Some time later, the officers again blocked the road with a road barrier. Traffic jam happened again. Not a few motorists who looked emotional because they were not allowed to pass.
