According to this, four of the victims alone lost a total of 650 euros via the PayPal payment platform because they chose the “Friends and Family” payment option without buyer protection.
A victim wanted to buy a supposedly cheap smartphone via Facebook and transferred the money to a foreign account. He did not receive the smartphone. He lost 380 euros.
A man was taken in by a fake shop and another lost €1,700 by giving out his credit card details to a classifieds shop.
Such cases of fraud have occurred time and again in the past.
The police expressly warns against dubious Internet transactions. A look at the imprint helps to identify fake shops. Credit card information should never be given out. If you want to pay via PayPal, then you should choose a payment option with buyer protection.
