The police’s online patrol in Agder shared a post on their Facebook that the police have received several messages that cyclists experience that the front wheels, steering wheel and other parts come loose.
They believe the incidents may be related to a TikTok trend.
– The trend is that mainly children and young people loosen parts on bicycles for other children and young or unknown people. It is often done in connection with school areas, says Sigrid Viste at the police net patrol in Agder.
Furthermore, the intention is for the fall to be filmed when ignorant cyclists get on the bike.
– Fatal consequences
In the Facebook post, the Police write about a little boy who experienced that the front wheel came loose. The child had to be taken by ambulance to hospital with serious injuries to his face and head.
Viste believes the trend can have deadly consequences, and fears that children and young people do not understand the seriousness.
– We understand that it has been done for fun, but it can in the worst case have fatal consequences. It is a life-threatening trend, says Viste.
Viste hopes that people will become more aware of checking that the bike is in good condition before they ride, especially if it has been parked in an unattended area for a while.
– Remember to check that the brakes work and that everything is in place. We also encourage all parents to talk to their children and young people about the fact that you must both be aware that it is happening, but also have a chat about the fact that this is not the way to joke – it is serious, says Viste to TV 2.
Ask people to report
The police’s online patrol now encourages people to report or report if this is something they experience.
– We have received reports of this both in Agder and nationally. It is important that people tell us both if this happens to them or if they watch any TikTok videos with such content, says Viste.
She also hopes that their warning can prevent more accidents from happening.
– We go out with this because we think it is important that people know about it. We do it not to intimidate, but to enlighten.
Viste states that the cases that have been reported or reported are further investigated locally.
