Police Urging Public to Report Freezing People in Bergen as Temperatures Plummet

It is freezing cold in Bergen. The police are therefore urging people to let them know if they see someone freezing outside in the cold.

– We have a low threshold for reaching out to people who are lying outside. Don’t just walk past people, says operations manager in the police, Knut Dahl-Michelsen.

The temperatures will be well below zero overnight until Sunday – according to Yr, it will drop into the double-digit minus degrees in several places in Bergen, but with a lower perceived temperature.

The operations manager says it can be dangerous to spend the night outside.

– You freeze to death if you are so drunk and sleep outside. We urge people in the city to take care of each other, he says.

– Noticeably fewer people

It will probably be a fairly quiet night in Bergen anyway, perhaps because of the cold.

The night to Saturday was very quiet, says the operations manager.

– There were noticeably fewer people out. Whether it’s New Year’s resolutions, people being broke or the cold, I don’t know, says Michelsen.
