Jakarta –
Police break into storage or drug vault in the Makassar State University (UNM) campus area. The Director General of Higher Education at the Ministry of Education and Culture, Nizam, criticized criminals who distribute drugs on campus.
“I strongly condemn criminals who distribute drugs on campus. Whoever they are, they must be severely punished,” Nizam told journalists, Sunday (11/6/2023).
Nizam said the drug dealers had damaged the nation’s future generations. He advised campus rectors throughout Indonesia to be more aware of drug trafficking on campus.
“I convey to the chancellors to be more aware of drug networks that may operate on campus. We must fortify students and all campus residents from the dangers of drugs,” he said.
Previously, the police uncovered a drug storage area on a campus in Makassar. The bunker allegedly has been in operation for a long time.
The South Sulawesi Regional Police Narcotics Agency, Kombes Dodi Rahmawan, explained that the place had stored 3 kilograms of methamphetamine, complete with records of the sale and purchase transactions. But he has not disclosed further on the grounds that his party is still developing the syndicate behind the drug bunkers.
“There is a safe for storing evidence and transactions. The last admission actually included 3 kilograms because it has been circulating for quite a long time,” Dodi said in a statement at the South Sulawesi Police Headquarters, Thursday (8/6).
Dodi admitted that he was quite saddened by the discovery of a drug safe within the scope of the university. The campus, which should be a place for the young generation to achieve in the world of education, has instead become the location for buying and selling these illicit goods.
UNM opens voice
UNM opened their voice regarding the discovery of a drug safe found by the police. UNM Deputy Chancellor III for Student Affairs A Muhammad Idkhan said the drug storage area at UNM was not a bunker because it was small.
“So we object to being called a bunker because the definition of a bunker is how big it can be, it turns out that after we saw it at that location it was only a safe of approximately 40×40 centimeters (size),” said Idkhan quoted detikSulsel, Saturday (10/6).
Nevertheless, Idkhan did not deny that the drugs were found in his campus environment. His party had checked and found a small safe under the floor.
“After I looked at the location, it turned out that what was meant by the bunker was not true. So what was true was a small safe under the floor,” he said.
Idkhan also responded to the police statement that said drug cases on campus had occurred for a long time. He admitted that he was new to this.
