Freiburg (ots) –

A traffic accident, in which a total of 11 people were injured, occurred on the morning of July 26, 2022, around 9:30 a.m., on the L134 between Neuenburg and Steinenstadt.

A car had to wait at the junction to Auggen due to traffic. The following vehicle recognized this and stopped behind the person waiting. A third vehicle, which was also heading towards Steinenstadt, drove into the first two vehicles.

The driver of the car, who originally wanted to turn, remained unharmed. A 31-year-old woman and a small child in the middle vehicle were killed by the accident seriously injured and taken to a clinic by rescue helicopter. There is no danger to life.

A youth group was in the presumably accident-causing van. The nine occupants, aged 12 to 22, were injured and taken to nearby hospitals. Three of the vehicle occupants were seriously injured. Their lives are not in danger either.

A fourth, oncoming vehicle was damaged by vehicle parts flying around. The three vehicles directly involved in the accident were totaled.

The relatives of the people involved in the accident have now been notified.

The Neuenburg fire brigade and several rescue helicopters and ambulances were deployed at the accident site. Trained personnel were also deployed by the emergency services and the police to look after the relatives.

The Freiburg traffic police have started investigating the accident. The road that was closed to record the accident was reopened at 2:00 p.m.
