Freiburg Accelerated procedure successfully applied three times
Friborg (ots) –
There have been three cases in which the accelerated procedure was successfully used in the past few days at the Freiburg South and North police stations.
On April 1, 2022, a male person of Algerian nationality was found shoplifting perfume items with a total value of around EUR 650 with a prepared thief bag in downtown Freiburg. The strenuous accelerated proceedings led to the main hearing on the following Saturday. The main hearing was scheduled for April 7th.
On April 2, 2022, a 49-year-old male, Georgian, was caught shoplifting electronic devices worth almost EUR 2,300 in Haslach. The strenuous accelerated proceedings led to detention on the following Sunday. The accused was sentenced to a fine of 900 euros on April 5 and has to bear the costs of the proceedings. The verdict is not yet legally binding.
On April 4, 2022, a 41-year-old Moldovan citizen in the Haid industrial park was able to Burglary be arrested. He carried a box cutter with him. Items that suggest he might be involved in further break-ins were also found.
In this case, too, at the request of the public prosecutor’s office, accelerated proceedings were carried out at the district court of Freiburg. The main hearing took place on the same day. The accused was sentenced to a fine of 1200 euros and has to bear the costs of the proceedings.
All three cases demonstrate the effectiveness of the Expedited Procedure. The punishment follows the act, so to speak, on the heels and has a prompt effect on the perpetrator. It also shortens the investigation effort and relieves the bodies entrusted with the investigations.
The so-called accelerated procedure is a means of the Code of Criminal Procedure that enables a quick trial and thus a judgment. It can be applied to suspects without a secure place of residence in simple cases with clear evidence.
