Police stop carnival procession on their way to The Hague

Fairground operators are angry. They do not agree that funfairs are prohibited until at least September 1 because of the corona virus. Yesterday they announced that they would not comply with a condition surrounding the manifestation set by the municipality of The Hague, namely the number of fairground vehicles on the Malieveld.

Reporter Jildou van Opzeeland saw many dozens of fairground vehicles driving to The Hague. “There is no end to it. Poffertjes stalls, checkout carts, cotton candy stalls, octopuses, they all drive here,” she said.

The operators drive with a sticker on their car that says: ‘1.5 meters from the abyss’.

Up to 10 vehicles

The municipality wants to allow a maximum of ten fairground vehicles. Other vehicles are allowed to park at the ADO stadium. But the demonstrators want to go there with 150 cars and attractions. The operators said yesterday to stick to their own plans. The municipality has already said that it will be enforced on violating the conditions.

The demonstration was supposed to start at 11 am, but at the moment it is not yet busy on the Malieveld. Most fairground operators are still on the way.

Convince

The fairground industry is taking action this week to convince the cabinet and the House of Representatives of the need to be able to run again as soon as possible. On Tuesday, 50 wives of fairground operators already presented an open letter at the Binnenhof.

Earlier this year, farmers protests led to traffic jams on access roads to The Hague and traffic jams in the court city.
