Isaías Cervantes, a 25-year-old boy with autism was shot at his home in the city of Cudahy by police officers from the Los Angeles Sheriff. Now, his family demands justice.
Last Wednesday, Rosa Padilla, mother of Isaiah, requested the presence of the Police in his home located in the 510 block of Live Oak Street, due to a family conflict related to Cervantes.
Upon arriving at the scene, Isaías had an altercation with a bailiff. Cervantes he attacked the officer by biting his eyes as he tried to take the pistol from him. The agent opened fire on the young man when he was allegedly on the ground.
Cervantes is hospitalized in critical condition and with a spinal cord injury.
“Justice for Isaiah!”, asked his mother this Friday along with his lawyers in the neighboring city of Lynwood. Padilla and his lawyers alleged that Cervantes did not represent a danger to the officers, who did not understand that he suffers from autism. Isaías’s family fear the gunshot will leave him paralyzed.
In addition to caring for Isaiah, Rosa Padilla takes care of her other twin son, who suffers from cerebral palsy.
