Police Shoot Man to Death – NBC 7 Washington DC (44)

A police officer fatally shot a man near the Bloomingdale’s store in Tysons Corner Center Wednesday night, Fairfax County police said.

A man was struck by a gunshot wound in the 8100 block of Fashion Boulevard, authorities said. Doctors took him to a hospital with life-threatening injuries, and he died shortly after.

At a news conference Wednesday night, Police Chief Kevin Davis said robbery prevention officers at the mall called Fairfax County police about a robbery in progress. He said officers responded and approached the suspect, who fled.

The man was pursued on foot by a uniformed officer and a plainclothes officer from inside the mall to a small wooded area in front of the parking lot about a quarter mile away, Davis said.

For a reason that is still under investigation, the police chief said both officers fired at the suspect in the wooded area.

It is not known if the suspect was armed, Davis continued. Detectives are waiting until dawn to search the wooded area. Davis also did not offer any further details about the robbery that prompted the original call.

Images captured by our news helicopter show several police cars, fire trucks and an ambulance at the back of the parking lot outside Bloomingdale’s.

Apparently first aid was also in a wooded area near the parking lot.

No officers were injured, police reported.

Davis reported that the uniformed officer had a body camera and that video will be released to the public within 30 days.
