In Vlissingen, the police shot a man. That happened around 7 p.m. during a check, which, according to a police spokesman, has escalated. “The colleague felt compelled to fire a shot.”
A video of the shooting incident is circulating on Snapchat. It shows a man sitting against the side of a car and making a movement with his arm. Shortly afterwards, an officer shoots at the man at close range, after which the man ends up sprawling on the sidewalk.
“This guy came behind that cop with a knife and he just got shot in the leg,” the caption to the clip on Snapchat. It is unclear whether the man was indeed carrying a knife and threatening an officer with it. The images show that a bicycle is lying on the sidewalk next to the victim, but it is not clear whether the bicycle belongs to him and whether he was on the bicycle just before that.
The police say that the video will be included in the investigation of the National Criminal Investigation Department. It is customary for the National Criminal Investigation Department to investigate if an agent has fired.
